Srinagar December 18: Goverment forces on Monday evening launched a cordon and search operation in Shopian village of South kashmir. Reports reaching news agency GNS said that a joint team of 44RR and SOG cordoned off Batmurran Hemlet of Wanpora following intelligence input about presence of militants. As such the joint team laid siege in the area, the locals mostly youth took to street and started pelting stones on forces. The Police and para military forces used tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters. Militant attack ongoing at Kabul intelligence training centre

Kabul: Armed militants stormed an intelligence agency training facility in Kabul Monday, officials said, triggering intense fighting with police in the latest attack to hit the Afghan capital. “Around 10:10 am, a group of armed attackers entered an under-construction building in (the) NDS training centre in (the) Afshar area of Kabul,” interior ministry spokesman Najib Danish told AFP, referring to the National Directorate of Security, Afghanistan’s spy agency. “The fighting is ongoing and we have also launched our operation.” There were no immediate reports of any casualties. Nasrat Rahim, a deputy interior ministry spokesman, said the sound of large and small arms fire could be heard from the fighting. The villages under CASO included Chatripora, Vehil, Nowgam, Panduchan, Kapran, Rey Kapran, Dangam,Wangam villages of Shopian district. The CASO was launched by 62 RR,34 RR, CRPF and police Shopian, after input about the presence of militants, sources told Kashmir Reader. Flyover from Alochi Bagh to Rambagh likely open Dec 31

Srinagar: The first phase of the much-awaited Rambagh-Jehangir Chowk flyover is likely to be thrown open for traffic on December 31. The project has missed two earlier deadlines but one part of it is now almost ready, the Director of Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency (JKERA) told Kashmir Reader. The flyover, constructed over a stretch of 1.5 km, is divided into an Alochi Bagh-Rambagh stretch (Phase 1), and Jahangir Chowk to Alochi Bagh (Phase 2). Phase I was set to be thrown open on March 2016, then it was deferred to June 2016, and now it is finally a few days from inauguration. “We are opening Phase 1 of the flyover for vehicular movement on December 31 on a two-week trial basis. During this time, the concrete slabs, supporting piers, and the joints would be tested,” said the JKERA Director, Satish Razdan. “The Phase 2 from Jahangir Chowk to Alochi Bagh will be completed by June 2018,” he said. J&K: Woman doctor honoured for donating blood 53 times

Jammu: A woman doctor in Jammu and Kashmir has been honoured for donating blood for more than 50 times in three decades by an organisation which promotes such efforts. A senior medical officer at Police Hospital, Jammu, Kiran Sharma, received the award from the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology (ISBTI) in December for her extraordinary contribution in the field of voluntary blood donation movement. ISBTI was formed in 1972 after Indo-Pak war in 1971, to motivate people for voluntary blood donation in the country. Sharma, the only women among the 10 people who received the award, said she felt inner solace on all 53 times she had donated blood. “I am donating blood for the past 30 years. I started in 1987 when I was a student,” she told PTI.
